Speak up!
Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to Tuesday Talks with Titus! If you are new to my blog, my name is Titus, and every month on a Tuesday I talk about tough problems and how to deal with them from a Biblical perspective! Today's talk shouldn't be taken lightly. Today we are talking about speaking up about mental health. First, what is mental health? according to medicalnewstoday.com "Mental health refers to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being." Our mental well-being is just as important as our physical well-being, and if we don't talk about our physical well-being, it only gets worse! The same goes for our mental well-being. Our verse of the day is found in Galatians 6:1-10, which says, "Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load." We are to bear one another's burdens! Or, in other words, we need to share our burdens with others. But make sure you listen right here... We can't bear your burden if we don't know about it! God only knows what all of you are going through, but we can't expect our mental health to get better if we don't talk about it. and for those of you who may not have mental health struggles, be willing to listen Sometimes, when someone you care about is going through some rough stuff, the best advice you can give them is silence. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:13 "If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame." This means if we try to give our advice before we let them talk, it won't help. Sometimes all your friend needs is someone to talk to. There's a song by Jordan St. Cyr called Weary Traveler, and in this song, he sings "You were never meant to walk this walk alone"! The truth is, we aren't meant to walk this walk alone, we are meant to share our burdens! Our brothers and sisters in Christ are there, so we can have someone to trust as we talk to them. Your mental health condition is serious; it's not something you can pretend isn't there. The people who care about you need to know. As we finish, let me say this, Your burdens will only get heavier until you share them. If you would like to listen to the podcast version of this talk, click the link at the bottom.
